Birthplace of Stafford Bowling Club

THE JUNCTION HOTEL COULD BE SAID TO BE THE BIRTHPLACE OF STAFFORD BOWLING CLUB

There were five founder members who formed Stafford Bowling Club
and signed as lessees in 1902, they were William Ebbern, Paul Bridgwood, Daniel Grattidge, Arthur Phillip Goodchild and Howard Johnson

Mr W Ebbern, the President of the Junction Bowling Club became the first President of Stafford Bowling Club in 1902. The owner of the Junction Hotel, Charles Henry Lea, was the brother of T A Lea who was secretary of SBC from 1905 – 1934.

A further connection was the system of paying 3 pence (old coinage) for a ticket to play a game – The Junction used tokens displayed below. In July 1902 1332 tickets were sold.
